Fall advertising campaign - Columbus State goes "Tradigital"

adWith digital media becoming more popular with young adults ages 17 to 35, a new form of advertising has become more effective. The mix of traditional advertising (television, radio, print and billboards) and digital advertising (web ads, Pandora radio, YouTube, Hulu) is called “Tradigital” advertising.

Columbus State’s focus for recruiting fall enrollment is on graduating high school seniors and recently graduated 17 to 20-year-olds, as well as young adults ages 21-35. The fall enrollment campaign will run July 7 through 31. You can view (and listen to) the fall semester ads on the Marketing & Communications website!

Thanks to significant gifts from Carolyn's family (Dennis Kaufman, Susan Kaufman, Amy Kaufman and Steve Kaufman), along with gifts from 45 friends and colleagues, the Dr. Carolyn Kaufman Scholarship Fund has reached nearly $60,000. Thanks to these generous contributions, the fund is now endowed and the scholarship will continue to make a difference in the lives of Columbus State students in perpetuity. Carolyn's caring and dedication shaped the lives of so many students here at Columbus State. It is fitting that her legacy of caring will continue to touch lives for generations to come.

Stage band to perform Big Band selections July 29

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, July 29, for the Columbus State Stage Band performance at 6:00 p.m. in the TL-123 music room.  The band, under the direction of Thomas Lloyd, will perform popular big band selections such as “Moonlight Serenade,” “Georgia On My Mind,” and “Mambo Swing.”

Stage Bands were a familiar feature of school music programs in the 1960s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. The name was derived from the big bands that performed on stage in places of entertainment particularly in the 1930s and ‘40s. Columbus State boasts a large saxophone section, plus trumpets, trombones, tuba, piano, bass and drums. Several guest artists will be joining the group including trumpet and flugel horn soloist Harry Kitchen.  The Stage Band music was donated by retired musician Del Spalsbury, who gave several boxes of classic arrangements to the band. Training required for employees who handle credit cards

All employees at Columbus State who handle credit cards or are exposed to credit card information are required to take a PCI Compliance training session annually. If you have taken the class previously, you are required to take a refresher class annually as well.

The Columbus State procedure states that to be in compliance with CSCC Procedure 9-12 (C), all department personnel assigned to process payment card transactions must receive training on the process to report and include those transactions in the College’s financial system.  Department personnel who accept and process payment cards must receive training on understanding the requirements of and compliance with the PCI-DSS standards. 

Six training sessions will be offered in July to meet this requirement. Sessions will be held in
Madison Hall Room 217, the Student Assistance Center Conference Room. They are:

  • Monday, July 14, at 9:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, July 15, at 8:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, July 15, at 3:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, July 16, at 12:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 17, at 8:00 a.m.
  • Friday, July 18, at 12:30 p.m.

Open Door Art Studio announces exhibit where size matters

imageThe Big and Small Wonders art show will feature very large paintings that measure over 36 inches displayed among whimsical, small works that are no larger than 12 inches. Regardless of size, all works in the exhibit make a big impact!

Open Door Art Studio is a not-for-profit organization specializing in services for artists with disabilities. Open Door acts simultaneously as a public gallery and an accessible creative space for more than sixty local artists who create through self-taught, outsider and visionary ideals.

 The Opening Reception will be held Saturday, August 2, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the gallery located at 1050 Goodale Boulevard.The exhibit will run through October 3.


Student service group invites all to volunteer Friday, Saturday

Cougars for the Community student service club invites employees and students to join them volunteering at Franklinton Gardens on Friday, July 11, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., at 909 W. Rich St. The group is also teaming up with Columbus Metropolitan Library for a Reading Buddies event Saturday, July 12, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Library’s Parsons Location, 845 Parsons Avenue. Reading Buddies provides after-school reading practice to students in kindergarten through third grade. Each student gets one-on-one reading practice with a volunteer. Volunteers also talk with the children and their parents about the importance of college.
