First Wednesday scheduled for Nov. 5

First Wednesday, the monthly meeting with President Harrison, will be held on Wednesday, November 5, from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m. in the Conference Center Ballroom, fourth floor WD. The campus community is invited to attend to recognize the Staff Employee of the Month, as well as hear the latest news and updates at the college. The event will also be live streamed at, where you will be prompted to enter the password: cougars.


International student Thanksgiving Dinner to be held Nov. 20

In the spirit of sharing American traditions with our international student population, Columbus State will host the annual International Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 20. The event allows international students and their families to enjoy a traditional meal with family and friends of the college. Admissions, which hosts the dinner each year, has experienced an increase in participation and expects more than 100 students this year.

Your help and support are needed to make this event a success. Please consider making a contribution to support this event. Your contributions will be used to provide dinner tickets for international students and their families and to help cover other expenses. 

If you would like to attend the event as well, individual tickets can be purchased for an additional $15 per person. Checks can be made payable to Columbus State Community College and sent to Amy Bullock in Enrollment Services, MA 111.  Thank you again for your generosity during this giving season!

GOLD Sponsorship: $200 (Provides tickets for 10 international students and for 3 guests from your organization or department.) 
Sponsorship: $110 (Provides tickets for 5 international students and for 2 guests from your organization or department.

Deadline extended for Weird Tale Thursday

The Communications Theatre Department is looking for scary, funny, weird, or strange-but-true stories from Columbus State students, staff and faculty. The deadline for submission has been extended to Friday, October 24. An hour of live performances has been scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, in Nestor Auditorium. Stories should be just a few minutes long, drawn from personal experience, and appropriate for all audiences. Got a story you want to tell? SafeZone training offered Oct. 23

“SafeZone 101” will be offered Thursday, October 23, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., in WD 407. SafeZone 101 is the starting point for learning about the LGBTQ+ community and for developing safe spaces for students and employees at Columbus State who identify as LGBTQ+. The training includes information sharing, reflective exercises, and interactive activities to help participants become more informed and effective allies. If you would like to attend, please visit to sign up.


Sidewalk from the Bookstore to WD closing for two weeks

Starting Friday, October 17, the sidewalk along Cleveland Avenue from the Bookstore down to The Center for Workforce Development (WD) will be closed for up to two weeks. The closure is needed while crews tear up the sidewalk to replace underground pipes.

The front entrances to the Bookstore and WD will remain open. However, you will not be able to walk in front of the two buildings. For easy passage between the two, a walkway behind the Bookstore will connect to the middle of WD.

Radiography students hold bake sale Oct. 30

The Radiography Student Association will hold a Bake Sale on Thursday, October 30, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Delaware Hall outside the cafeteria. The students are raising funds to participate in the student knowledge bowl competition at the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists Annual Meeting in April 2015.   Please support the Radiography students in this effort by eating lots of baked goods!


Christopher’s open on Thursdays for lunch and dinner today

While we are on the subject of good food, don’t forget that Christopher’s, the student-run dining experience served in Eibling Hall 05, is now open for lunch on Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and dinner from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m. You can view each week’s menu online here




Plan your great escape at retirement workshop

In honor of “National Save for Retirement Week,” the Columbus State Benefits Team invites you to attend a free retirement planning workshop titled "Planning Your Great Escape: Retirement." The workshop is offered by AXA Advisors and will be held Thursday, October 23, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in WD 409.  Registration is required.  RSVP to Ashleigh Armstrong at (614) 310-8677 by Oct. 22.

Mobile mammography screening offered Nov. 10

The James Care Mobile Mammography van will be on campus Monday, November 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to do screenings on appointment. The vehicle will park in the visitor meter area across from Nestor Hall. To make an appointment, call the James Care scheduling department at (614) 293-4455 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
