Yocum named to Top 30 Coaches list

photoThe American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has presented the Thirty Under 30 Awards for 2015, naming Columbus State head volleyball coach Jacklynn Yocum for the award.  The award was created in 2009 to honor thirty of the up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game.

Yocum, 28, has coached the Volleyball Cougars for five years, and finished the 2014/2015 season 34-4, as OACC Conference champions, Region E District champions and with an appearance in the NJCAA Final Four. She has an overall record of 118 total victories. The Cougars reached a top 10 national ranking in 2012, 2013, 2014 and Yocum was named OCCAC Coach of the Year each year. She was also named 2014 Region E District Coach of the Year.

“Volleyball has been a huge part of my life for a long time, and I have developed a lot of love and passion for the sport and the way it should be played,” says Yocum. “I understand the direct impact athletics and coaches have had on my life and I want to provide positive experiences and develop strong work ethic and leadership qualities that leave a lasting impact on my players.”


Register for In-Service sessions

The 2015 Spring In-Service Day will be held on Thursday, April 16, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the morning session in the Delaware Hall Gymnasium.  Like last year, lunch will be served indoors in the Conference Center, WD fourth floor. Our students and staff from Hospitality Management have another wonderful menu planned.

The entire afternoon is divided into two sessions, or “tracks” to accommodate all attendees. Each track contains the same programming, just at different times. The schedule is online now, so please register for the afternoon track, as well as confirming your lunch attendance here: In-Service Registration. Please register by Monday, April 13, so event coordinators can plan for your attendance.

Central Scheduling has new faces and phone numbers

The faces and phone numbers have changed a bit lately, but Central Scheduling is still happy to assist you with the following activities:

Katie Kuhn is now doing course building, course changing and scheduling at ext. 2620. ErinBeth Dower does academic scheduling and room scheduling at ext. 5946. The newest member of the team, Syreeta Mitchell, is doing event scheduling at ext. 2537.  Please put these numbers on speed dial and let them know what you need.

 

Incorporate service learning into your classes for 2016

Do you want to incorporate service-learning in your teaching?  If so, say “Yes to the S” and join the growing list of S faculty by applying for an S Designation for your Spring and/or Summer Semester 2016classes. 

Service learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning process, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. 

Please visit the Service-Learning webpage for more information and to download the proposal form (click “Instructors”).  To submit your S Designation application for approval, please scan and email the completed the proposal form to servicelearning@cscc.edu.

The deadline to submit an S Designation course proposal for Spring and/or Summer Semester 2016 classes is Friday, April 17. Any faculty member serving on the College’s Service-Learning Committee or any Division Service-Learning Committee member (listed on the website) can provide you with assistance in planning your S course and/or completing the proposal.

All S Designation requests are handled through the Office of Academic Affairs Service-Learning Committee.  If you have any questions, please contact the committee co-chairs Lisa Briggs and Nancy Pine

 


 

Deadline for fee waivers is May 6

The deadline for Employee and Dependent Fee Waivers for Summer Semester is Wednesday, May 6.  A Request for Fee Waiver form must be turned into Human Resources by 4:30 p.m. to guarantee that fee waivers will be processed before late fees are assessed.

You may also pay your fees first and be reimbursed within 30 days from the start of the term by completing the Request for Fee Waiver form and submitting an official payment receipt into Human Resources by Friday, June 26.  If you have any questions, please contact Darrylene Mason at ext. 2406.
