Holiday Note:  All Columbus State campuses and regional learning centers will close at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 24, for the holiday break.  The break runs December 25 through January 1, 2016.


Thanksgiving fun, Columbus State style

Another successful International Thanksgiving Dinner was held November 23 thanks to hard work by the Office of International Student Services, and numerous campus sponsors. More than 100 students, community and family members enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal, a special presentation, and live music while they experienced the American tradition of Thanksgiving.  “We are thankful for such a wonderful community of friends at Columbus State which made this event possible, building and promoting community and cultural understanding,” said Jo Yin Tang, supervisor.


Open forum to discuss the recruitment landscape in Central Ohio

logoPlease join Re-Imagining the Student Experience (RiSE) for a special Open Forum titled “A Landscape Review – Options, Offers, and Recruitment Practices in Central Ohio,” with Cathy De Rosa, nonprofit consultant. The forum will be held Wednesday, December 16, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Nestor Hall 218.

The landscape study, conducted under leadership by the Office of Enrollment Management and Student Services, explored and mapped the academic offerings, recruitment and marketing practices of more than 25 educational institutions in Central Ohio. This session will provide an executive-level overview of the findings and insights about our increasingly competitive postsecondary educational market.

De Rosa Cathy De Rosa

Cathy De Rosa, MBA is a nonprofit executive and consultant with more than 25 years of leadership experience in marketing, technology, and education.  Most recently, De Rosa served as Vice President of Global Marketing at OCLC.  She has held management positions at MicroCard Technologies, Price Waterhouse, and Texas Instruments, and taught marketing and branding at The Ohio State University.  She received her BS in accounting at the University of Arizona and her MBA from the Harvard Business School.

The event will also be live streamed at where you will be prompted to enter the password cougars.

Autumn Pono Cohort ‘graduates’

Seventeen staff, students and administrators came together for the Autumn 2015 Pono Diversity Learning Community, completing eight weeks of learning through storytelling and activities this fall. The Spring Semester 2016 cohort is now forming, so if you or someone you know would like to join, fill out the electronic application online now. Dr. Andrew Rezin to retire

After 29 distinguished years of service to Columbus State, Dr. Andy Rezin will retire at the end of the year. Since 1986, Rezin has worked as an adjunct faculty, faculty member and Chair of Automotive and Skilled Trades Technologies, as well as serving on numerous committees, task forces and working groups! Please join the Automotive and Skilled Trades Technologies Department in giving Andy a great send off, in Eibling Hall lower level, Monday, December 14, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.





Reception for Carol Thomas to be held Dec. 17

Vice President for Information Technology Carol Thomas will be leaving the college at the end of the year, and the department will host a farewell reception for her on Thursday, December 17, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in the Franklin Hall Boardroom.






Reminder: Troop Care package drive runs through Dec. 18

Military and Veterans Services is sponsoring a collection of items for holiday care packages for the troops. The donations help The Blue Star Mothers Chapter 9 “Buckeye Moms” who collect items for their 2015 Holiday care package push for troops deployed to Afghanistan. Drop boxes for the drive are located in various offices around the Columbus and Delaware campuses, and will be available through the last day of the semester, Dec. 18. You cans see a list of items needed on the Veterans Services website.



Wellness Initiative offers resources for healthy holidays

Find healthy holiday eating tips in this Holiday Health Eating Guide from the American Heart Association.You’ll find lots of tips to reduce sodium, fats, sugar and alcohol in those traditional holiday treats.The American Heart Association also offers the Cold Weather Fitness Guide, with all kinds of ideas for starting and maintaining a fitness routine this winter!  And for healthier, stress-free holidays, Matrix offers a Guide to Managing Stress When Visitors Come to Town, which offers tips to make your family get-togethers more memorable!
