Grilling with award-winning Chef Taylor!

Chef Jim Taylor, chair of Hospitality Management and Sport and Exercise Studies, will be honored by the American Academy of Chefs for his lifetime achievements, leadership and service at a black-tie dinner, Sunday, June 14, at the Sheraton Columbus Capital Square.

Taylor has been teaching culinary students at Columbus State for 25 years and worked as a chef for 23 years prior to joining the college. He has also been a member of the American Culinary Association for 32 years.

The dinner is open to the public and is a fundraiser for the American Academy of Chefs, the honor society of the American Culinary Federation.

Volunteers needed on Empowerment Day July 15

The 2015 Empowerment Day Resource and Job Fair will be held on Wednesday, July 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Columbus State Conference Center, fourth floor WD.

Empowerment Day is an annual event celebrating family empowerment, sponsored by the Child Support Enforcement Agency, Franklin County Veterans Service Commission, and Columbus State. The event provides Franklin County residents with information about job opportunities, education and training options, parenting resources and other community programs available to help them succeed. In 2014, more than 500 individuals attended, and even more are expected this year.

Pono Champion is ‘friend forever’

Bettina Batts, seated center, celebrates with her co-workers in Records and Registration after being named the 2015 Pono Champion. The Department of Global Diversity and Inclusion recently recognized Batts for her outstanding participation in the Pono program. Batts received multiple nominations for the award due to her “courage in sharing her experiences” and for “never being afraid to start the conversation.” One of her nominators stated “I enjoyed Tina's perspectives and I believe she has helped me understand that people can go through all types of challenges and obstacles, and still overcome it all!  She will be a friend of mine forever.” If you’re interested in learning more or joining an upcoming Pono cohort please visit the website, or contact the office of Global Diversity and Inclusion at ext. 2426.


More year-end purchasing deadlines approaching

The following are upcoming deadlines for all year-end purchasing:

Friday, June 26 - Last day to place office supply orders with OfficeMax. 

Tuesday, June 30 - Date by which all goods and services must be received in order to be charged to FY 2015 budget.

Tuesday, June 30 - Last day to complete and submit Bookstore requisition for stock items in the Bookstore.

Friday, July 31 - Date by which invoices must be received in Accounts Payable to be paid out of FY 2015 budget.  Invoices received after July 31 will be charged to the FY 2016 budget unless previous arrangements are made with Business and Campus Services.



Reminder:  Tobacco Free College information session offered June 12

As the college draws closer to the effective date of the Tobacco Free College Policy on July 1, important information and resources will be shared at an Information Session on Friday, June 12, at 2:00 p.m. in WD 404.

All college employees are invited to attend the session, led by co-sponsor of the Tobacco Free College Implementation Committee, Kimberly Hall. The session will review the policy and your role in supporting a tobacco-free college, as well as provide updates on various resources available to both employees and students.
