Governor Kasich appoints three trustees

Columbus State has two new trustees and one returning trustee following appointments by Ohio Governor John Kasich. All three were sworn in at last Thursday’s regular Board meeting. Their terms on the nine-member Board run through August 31, 2021.

The Governor’s appointees include Catherine M. Lyttle of Worthington and Robert P. Restrepo, Jr. of Columbus. Lyttle is Vice President of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations at Worthington Industries. Restrepo is the former President and CEO and retiring Chairman of State Auto Insurance.

Governor Kasich re-appointed Richard D. Rosen of Upper Arlington to a second term on the Board. He served as both Chair and Vice Chair during his previous term. Rosen is the Founder of IMPACT445 and Indigo Strategies. He holds a Visiting Fellows position with Johns Hopkins University School of Education, where he is completing his doctorate. He has also held numerous executive positions including Corporate Vice President for Education and Philanthropy at Battelle. 


Ng joins panel to discuss social justice topics

Amy Ng, Ph.D., assistant professor in Social Sciences, recently joined Hannah Estabrook of the Franklin County Changing Actions to Change Habits (CATCH) Court, in a panel discussion regarding human trafficking and prostitution. The social justice topic and panel was presented by Columbus State’s PTK chapter, Alpha Rho Epsilon, at its annual Honors in Action Project.



Pay advice for December

A few things to keep in mind about the pay period ending December 15, 2015 (Pay day December 24):

  • Employee web time entry is due Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at 11:00 p.m.
  • Supervisory web time approval is due Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 5:00 p.m.
  • All payroll information is due to the Payroll Office by Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 5:00 p.m.

Due to the shortened processing time with the holiday closure, anything received after this time will be posted to the December 31, 2015 pay period, for the January 15, 2016 pay date.


First Wednesday scheduled for Dec. 2

Join your colleagues and President Harrison at the December First Wednesday, to be held Dec. 2, starting at 8:15 a.m. in the Conference Center Ballroom, fourth floor WD.  We will celebrate the Staff Employee of the Month and hear updates on the latest news from around the college. As always, the event will be live streamed at where you will be prompted to enter the password cougars.


They GOT a scholarship!

At the recent Scholarship Donors Breakfast, student recipients of the Generation One Trailblazers (GOT) scholarship took time out for a photo with President Harrison. The GOT Scholarship recognizes and supports students who are among the first in their families to attend college.


Iranian nuclear deal lecture Tuesday night

Now that lawmakers in Washington D.C. have finished debating the merits of the nuclear deal between the United States and Iran, an expert on the topic will discuss the issue in Central Ohio. The lecture is sponsored by the Columbus State Arts and Sciences Lecture Series.

The deal came about after the United States and several other nations reached an agreement allowing most sanctions on Iran to be lifted in exchange for limits on Iran’s nuclear activities.

Emad Kiyaei, researcher at Princeton University and the Executive Director of the American-Iranian Council, will present “Following the Iranian Nuclear Deal: Opportunities for U.S.-Iran Rapprochement and Regional Cooperation." It is free and open to the public.

The lecture will take place Tuesday, November 24 at 7 p.m. in the 4th floor ballroom of WD.
