Work projects happening over break

Several work projects are taking place over the break between semesters which will impact employees who are on campus this week.

The elevators in Nestor and Eibling halls will be inspected this week and next. That means there will be some periods of time where only one of the two elevators in each building will be available for use.

Two Columbus Campus student parking lots—the 11-S in front of Nestor Hall and the 12-S behind it—will both be repainted. The days they are scheduled to be closed are Wednesday, August 17 - 11-S; Thursday, August 18 - 11-S and 12-S; Friday, August 19 - 12-S.

The largest project this week will be on Jefferson Avenue on the east side of campus, off Spring Street. The Jefferson Avenue and Grove Street section of roadway has been under a major renovation all summer as crews repave the surface and add sidewalks. Starting Wednesday, August 17, a small section of Jefferson Avenue just off Spring Street will be closed for a few days for final work. When entering Jefferson from Spring Street, you will ONLY be able to turn left and park in the 8-S lot, (next to the Telephone Information Center.) Other lots along Jefferson will be accessible from Cleveland Avenue at Grove Street, which has now reopened.

AVI to change food service on Delaware Campus

food micro market

The new Market C at the Delaware Campus will be a self-serve, cashless facility to better serve students.

This fall, the Cyber Café at the Delaware Campus will change format to become a micro market named “Market C” to better serve students at the campus.  It will be a self-service convenience store with payments made at a kiosk, using debit or credit cards. Students can also set up an account and use a Market C card or their thumbprint to charge to the account.

The café space has been reworked to accommodate this new format, and installation will be completed in time to open August 24. When the fall semester begins, Market C will be open for service to match building hours, providing better service for evening and weekend students.

Grad home from Japan

Dr. Rogers with Worman

Returning from study abroad in Japan, 2015 graduate Jack Worman visits with his former Columbus State advisor, Jan Rogers.

2015 Associate of Arts graduate Charles “Jack” Worman recently returned from a year-long study abroad in Japan through the University of Indiana at Champaign-Urbana. He was in Japan studying Japanese language, literature, culture and other subjects from August 2015 to May 2016. “I realized I could do so much more than I ever thought I could,” Worman told former advisor Jan Rogers.  He told Rogers that he also loved traveling across the country and spent a lot time walking and visiting with local shopkeepers and others, so much that he lost over 90 pounds during his trip. Worman will attend The Ohio State University this fall, to complete a bachelor’s degree in anthropology, and then hopes to attend graduate school to earn a Ph.D. and a start a career as a professor.
