Resources are available for employees

As recently expressed by Dr. Rebecca Butler, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services, Columbus State’s diverse community is among our biggest strengths.

Columbus State is committed to ensuring that each member of our community feels valued and supported, including all college employees. The resources listed here are just some of the ways Columbus State provides that support.

You can learn more about the exciting changes to campus food services by attending an information session on Thursday, December 8, at 10:00 a.m. in the Library multimedia room.

Are you interested in hiring student employees for spring semester? Hiring a student employee is a great way to help our students gain valuable work skills and experience, at no cost to your department.

Columbus State departments may submit student employment requisition requests directly through Cornerstone. Departments that previously had a student posting in Cornerstone have the option to copy the prior position and use that information to submit their request.

To learn more about student employment, contact Amanda Perk, Student Employment coordinator. Detailed instructions on submitting a requisition request can be found on the Career Services website.

Ideas To Go: ‘Danger of the Single Story’
When we hear just a single story about a person, people or country, we risk critical misunderstanding.  Gather with other staff, faculty and students to view the 2009 TED Talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as she tells how she found her authentic cultural voice, and warns of the dangers of hearing a single story. Come watch the TED Talk and join the discussion about what it means for us here at Columbus State. The session is offered on Thursday, December 8, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Have topic to share with employees?
Professional Development and Retention can help you host an “Ideas to Go! Conversation.” Session hosts provide a brief overview before moving to open conversation. Participants are welcome to bring a lunch, cup of coffee, news to share and, especially, your own curiosity and expertise.  Quick, conversational, impactful. That’s Ideas to Go. Contact Rich James, Barbara Allen or Dr. Phyllis Gorman in Professional Development and Retention to learn more.

Win with Your Strengths
Win with Your Strengths, offered Tuesday, December 13, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., is an introduction to strengths-based language where you’ll learn more about your own strengths and the strengths of others.  Prior to the class, you will take the online StrengthsFinder assessment and determine your top five “Signature Strengths.” Register
