Faculty featured in Library art exhibition

Four Columbus State Art Department faculty members will exhibit their works in the Library's second floor gallery through the end of the month. The idea of a faculty group show came from Judy Beckman, long-time instructor in the Humanities. In the twenty-plus years she has taught at Columbus State, there has never been a group exhibition by art faculty, she noted. The show provides an opportunity for the Columbus State community to view our own faculty’s creative work.  Participating artists are Beckman, Ian Cross, Stacy Leeman, and Jon Wahling. For a link to their works, please visit: http://library.cscc.edu/libraryartcollections/ArtExhibit.

A ‘Day out West’ inspires high schoolers

testing the bridge

Chair of Engineering Technologies Dick Bickerstaff watches as West High School students test their straw bridge structures for strength during Cougar Day.

Students at West High School walked away inspired and enlightened from the first-ever Career/Cougar Day at West High School, held recently. Junior and senior students took advantage of a College Fair and keynote address by West alumnus Javier Sanchez. The second half of the day was geared toward the freshmen and sophomores as they begin to explore possibilities for their future careers. Faculty and staff from Columbus State described and demonstrated a variety of job choices, educational pursuits and career fields, helping them understand the relationship between high school, college, and their futures.
