Specialist keeps hiring process running smoothly, even under pressure

Recruitment and Selection Specialist Keith Kipp supports not one, two or even five managers — he helps more than 40 mangers at the College with recruitment needs. “Keith is a solid employee who has been a huge asset to the Recruitment and Selection team in HR,” said his supervisor Tracy La Mar-Nickoli. “His customer service skills are exemplary! He is one of the friendliest and most easy going people I know.”

As lead HR specialist in Recruitment and Selection, Kipp monitors the workflow of the recruitment team and helps ensure that work is completed in a timely manner according to HR standards. He also processes offer letters, enters new employee data into the correct database, and assists with pre-employment tasks such as conducting reference checks, reviewing drug screens and processing forms.

“Each semester, we hire many new adjuncts,” said Greg Goodhart, chair of the Mathematics Department and the one who nominated Kipp for Staff Employee of the Month. “While we try to hire the adjuncts as early as possible, there are inevitable last-minute hires. This can be a hectic and stressful time. Keith’s responsiveness helps smooth the process.”

No matter the project or how tight the deadline, Kipp delivers prompt, friendly service to the College’s internal and external customers. He’s received multiple Cougar Paws over the past year as well, including recognitions for customer focus, professionalism, managing work and collaboration.


Design, Construction and Trades Department wins award at Ohio State Fair

For the fourth time in five years, the Design, Construction and Trades Department interactive exhibit was awarded Best In Show at the Ohio Technology & Engineering Education Association Annual State Fair Showcase on Sunday, July 30.

Fairgoers had the chance to spin the Wheel of Knowledge and answer questions from the eight programs in the department. Who knew the Ohio state wildflower is the white trillium, or that the first chemical water treatment in the world occurred in 1907 in Columbus?

The Landscape Design and Manage program demonstrated manual and computer aided 3D rendering techniques to visitors. Skilled Trades showed off all the opportunities for high-paying career opportunities with an AAS degree and journeyman status. HVAC showed off a model refrigeration and Civil Engineering and Surveying had visitors use current technology to check out the building layout and elevations. Construction Management provided guests the opportunity to “build a house.”

“This is a fantastic way to show how our programs and department lead the way for careers, high wages, and enough opportunity to last a lifetime,” said Dean Bortz, Professor for Construction Management.

This event brings staff, faculty and administration together to celebrate accomplishments and friendships. WOW Cookout Celebrity Chef Invitation

Student Engagement and Leadership would like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate as a "Celebrity Chef" for our annual WOW Cookout and Involvement Fair event hosted at Columbus Campus!

The event, hosted during Week of Welcome, will be held Wednesday August 30. Celebrity Chefs are needed from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for meal prep and distribution. Medical Assisting Hiring Event

Columbus State is hosting a job fair specifically for recent Medical Assisting program graduates and alumni on Thursday, August 10 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The event will take place on the third floor of Union Hall, and representatives from Ohio Health, Central Ohio Primary Care, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and others will be present to interview candidates. Still Life Sings from Paralysis toward Liberation concert

Rocco Di Pietro, adjunct professor in Humanities, and David Tomasacci, adjunct professor in Humanities, are both performing in a concert to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The concert will feature Di Pietro’s original pieces along with Korean, Japanese and American works that focus on the broken world in a quest for wholeness. The event takes place Sunday, August 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the TL 123 band room. Sponsors include Community Organizing Center, Columbus Campaign for Arms Control, Central Ohioans for Peace and the Puffin West Foundation.

HR employees achieve Global Career Development Facilitator credentials

Two members of the Human Resources department recently completed 120 hours of Career Development Facilitator training in conjunction with the Career Services department’s Career Counseling Plan for College staff. Supervisor of Employee Recruitment Tracy La Mar-Nickoli and Selection and HR Business Partner Wanda Demons were both approved as credentialed Global Career Development Facilitators (GCDF) through Center for Credentialing & Education™. Credential holders are trained to help people, both individually and in a group setting, make informed decisions when considering their own career development. Through the use of best practices, various assessment tools, and career development models GCDFs impart individuals with the knowledge and skills to embark on their professional journey. Cornerstone Upgrade Gives Fresh Look to Webpages

The College utilizes Cornerstone On Demand for its applicant tracking and performance review systems. A regularly scheduled upgrade on August 5 will result in visual changes to two frequently accessed pages. The Universal Profile navigation menu will be listed horizontally across the top of the page instead of listed vertically on the left. The Scheduled Tasks page has also been redesigned. Working Spouse Premium Affidavit Request

All employees with a spouse or domestic partner enrolled on Columbus State’s medical plan are required to complete and submit an updated Working Spouse Premium Affidavit form during the annual Open Enrollment period that ended May 31st.
