Mitchell Hall construction update

Mitchell Hall under construction

Construction remains on schedule for the Mitchell Hall project. Program Coordinator Eric McMillon reports that crews are putting the last sequence of steel in place. They will then prepare for concrete flooring starting with the third floor and working down to the first. This is all necessary before fully enclose the building which will happen sometime this winter.

Show #CougarCourage at the annual Mental Health and Wellness Fair

Counseling Services invites all faculty, staff, and students to the sixth annual Mental Health and Wellness Fair. It will be held on Wednesday, October 10 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Nestor Hall lounges. There will be information about community mental health providers, activities for improving mental health, and free giveaways and prizes!

The fair this year will feature a mindfulness workshop, body positivity activities, #VoicesAgainstViolence, and an opportunity to meet service dogs. There will also be a sensory-friendly room in Madison Hall 103 for any participants needing a quiet space to reflect and relax. Follow @CounselingCSCC or email for more details!

The newly renovated Union Cafe is now open, and we want to celebrate our diverse culture by displaying original artwork by our talented students, faculty, and staff. 

If you have created an original painting, illustration, graphic design, digital art, drawing, or photograph, please submit your item for consideration. If your art is chosen to be displayed, you could win a gift card to the Columbus State Bookstore - along with the pride of having your artwork in a gallery! October ushers in “Inktober” drawing contest at Bookstore

The Bookstore is holding an “Inktober” drawing challenge. Share your drawings and you could win a Bookstore gift card. Follow the five steps to take part: 1. Follow the Bookstore on Instagram. 2. Make a drawing in ink. 3. Post it on Instagram. 4. Hashtag it with “Inktober.” 5. Tag it with @cscc_bookstore.

Support the Career Services Mentorship Program on October 17

Columbus State employees, friends, and family are invited to attend a happy hour fundraiser in support of the Career Services Mentorship Program. It will be held at Land Grant Brewing, 424 W. Town St., on Wednesday, October 17 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. This program helps match Columbus State students with professionals working in their field of interest. The fundraiser will also support professional development programming for student participants. The OH! Do you know a student with legal needs?

A representative from Legal Aid Society of Columbus  will be on campus Tuesday, October 9 hosting appointments and walk-in hours in Eibling Hall 201 from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. to assist students in need of legal assistance. Send students their way to see how they may be able to help. Students may walk-in, though are encouraged to register through Cougar Connect.

Women’s ERG collaborates with Student Affairs for next meeting

The Women’s Employee Resource Group invites college employees who identify as women to join us for a collaborative event on Thursday, October 11 from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. in the media studio in the lower level of the Library.

Bring your lunch and a friend, join the discussion tables, and participate in the raffle. If you have questions about the Women’s ERG, please contact liaisons Crystal Clark or Kelly Hogan.

Annual Staff Convocation

The annual Staff Convocation will be held on Friday, October 12 from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. in the Delaware Hall Gymnasium.



Free flu shots on both campuses

Cold and flu season is arriving and Columbus State’s Wellness Coordinator has announced that free flu shots will once again be available to all full-time employees. You will need to fill out a consent form and show your health insurance card – if you have one - on site.

Columbus Campus: Wednesday, October 17 from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in Davidson Hall room 201. Register here.

Delaware Campus: Wednesday, October 24 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in room 134 of the Administration Building. Register here.

Be more efficient with your time, attend a free time-management workshop

The Center for Advising Support and Exploration and the Student Academic Success Office are teaming up to offer Time Management Workshops to provide you with resources, information, and skills to help you be successful. 

The first two 90-minute sessions will be held on Monday, October 15 at 12:30 p.m. and Wednesday, October 17 at 2:30 p.m. They will meet in in WD 206. The third session will be held on Thursday, October 18 at 9:30 a.m. in WD 209.


Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through mid-October

Global Diversity and Inclusion is sponsoring various events, displays, and workshops through October 17 to spotlight Hispanic Heritage Month. All events are listed here.


Disability Awareness Month at Columbus State

Several events for faculty, staff, and students are scheduled including free, one-hour introductory American Sign Language classes at the Delaware and Columbus campuses. Class registration is available on CougarConnect.

Mary Bantu will host “There’s an App for That!” on Tuesday, October 23 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. in Moeller Hall 129. Everyone is invited to learn about apps and websites that help students with disabilities improve skills and develop habits that lead to academic success.

School Employees Retirement System (SERS) Service Credit Purchase


Effective January 1, 2019, SERS will no longer accept pre-tax payroll deduction plans for the purchase of service credit on past work experience. Any payroll deduction purchase plan that is received on or after January 1, 2019 must be on a post-tax basis. Employees can continue to purchase allowable credit on a pre-tax basis under a payroll deduction plan initiated before January 1, 2019. To initiate a service credit purchase, contact SERS at 614-222-5853.

Medicare and Retirement Planning workshop
A Medicare and Retirement Planning workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 17 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in WD 241. Get in-depth information on Medicare 101, retirement savings strategies, and planning for retirement including social security and pension strategies.  RSVP to by October 15.
