Communication Services

Columbus State Marketing & Communications tells the college’s story through news articles, feature stories, news releases, and social media posts that reach our audiences near and far.

Our department delivers important news and campus achievements that connect our campuses and our community. These efforts are driven by two teams that administer our internal and external communications. An overview of these services is provided below.

Internal Communications

Marketing & Communications produces Update, Columbus State’s official news and information publication for employees. Update is shared twice a week utilizing a global email news bulletin.

Marketing & Communications also posts a news and events bulletin for students on the website Campus Life. News items of interest to students are shared here on a weekly basis, and students are notified of new articles by email once a week. To submit student news to Campus Life, email us here.

Faculty and Staff Web Page - The Internal Communications Team maintains the content of the college’s faculty and staff Web page. The page is currently undergoing a restructuring and improvement. Please submit your suggestions for improving the page here.

Global email communications (all-campus emails) - Marketing & Communications provides broadcast electronic messaging support for the Office of the President, Cabinet, and other members of the executive staff. Global emails are approved based on three general categories:

  • Emergency - Highly important, time-sensitive messages including emergency notices such as security alerts or campus closings due to severe weather.
  • Official - Highly important, non-emergency messages such as government reporting requirements, policy changes, human resources information and etc.
  • Informational - Other non-emergency messages that are directly related to college business or academic operations.

External Communications

Our External Communications Team plays a key role in working with local, regional, and national media, as well as administering Columbus State’s primary Youtube channel. In addition to producing news releases and promoting promote significant college achievements, the members of this team serve as consultants and advisers for Columbus State faculty or staff members who may be contacted by external news organizations.

The External Communications Team administers a site For the Media, which includes news releases, Fast Facts for the media, Columbus State in the News, media contacts, and a site for live webcasts. The External Communications Team can also provide or recommend expert faculty or staff resources for media.

Emergency Communications

An important aspect of our mission is to collaborate in the process of making our campus community aware of emergencies that may affect the safety of students, faculty, and staff. Marketing & Communications plays an important role in disseminating emergency announcements via messaging on the college’s home page at, and through global email emergency messages. The External Communications team also administers the Severe Weather Policy page, alerting the media in the case of severe weather closings of any or all campuses.

If you witness a campus emergency, please contact the Columbus State Police Department at ext. 2525 or call 911. The Police Department at Columbus State also administers the RAVE emergency mobile text alert system.

Social Media

Social media is not just a set of communication tools; it’s a completely different way of thinking about how we interact with each other. Marketing & Communications administers the college’s primary Facebook and Twitter accounts, connecting Columbus State with students, faculty, alumni, and friends everywhere. Marketing & Communications can help other college departments launch their own Facebook and Twitter sites and serves as consultants on issues related to social media.
