Chorus Columbus State, under the direction of Gordon Franklin, will perform its Spring Quarter Concert on Monday, June 1, at 8 p.m. in Nestor Hall Auditorium. The Chorus will be performing a selection of jazz music, including “A Little Jazz Mass,” several Gershwin pieces, as well as a new-age Lithuanian piece.

The Columbus State Concert Band, directed by Thomas Lloyd, will perform its spring concert on Tuesday, June 2, at 8 p.m. in Nestor Hall Auditorium. The concert will feature the music of African-American composer William Grant Still, and the composer's daughter, Judith, will be in attendance to speak about her father's life and music.

The concert begins with the "Fanfare for the 99th Fighter Squadron," dedicated to the famous Tuskegee Airmen and newly arranged by Columbus State band director Thomas Lloyd. Selections from "The American Scene" include "A New Orleans Street," "Berkshire Night," and "Grand Teton." The featured work will be Still's "Afro-American Symphony." Composed in 1929 for orchestra, it is the first symphony composed by a Black American. The band will play a transcription of the second and third movements.
Also on the program is Still's "Folk Suite for Woodwind Quintet."

Finally, the Columbus State Gospel Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Emma Easton, will present "My Story; My Song" on Thursday, June 4, at 7 p.m. in Nestor Auditorium. During this concert, flags will fly and banners will waive as the Ensemble presents the stories and songs of East Coast artists Donnie McClurken, Hezekiah Walker and the late Rev. Timothy Wright. Special guests include Erich Barnes and StewJacks Entertainment Soloist "Nicole."
