Photography instructor has show at Museum of Art
Kojo Kamau has taught photography as an adjunct faculty member for more than 10 years at Columbus State. But for more than 50 years, he has chronicled the history, politics and society of Columbus, and around the world.

To celebrate Kojo Kamau's 70th birthday this year, the Columbus Museum of Art is presenting: Kojo: Fifty Years in Photography. The exhibit runs through October 4.

About the exhibit, CMA says: “Throughout his life, Kojo Kamau has made major contributions to the vitality of the arts in Columbus. He is a community treasure and has been influential in supporting arts and artists in Columbus since the 1960s.”

Kojo: Fifty Years in Photography includes more than 60 photographs, both color and black and white, reflecting Kojo's five decades working the medium. The exhibition addresses themes that run throughout the photographer's career, such as community, travels, portraits of local and international artists and musicians, and political and social issues.

“History is important to me, and I often incorporate it in my photographs,” says Kamau. “We must not forget the lessons learned from history. Photography allows me the opportunity to communicate with the world.”

Reminder: Community Care Day logoOn Tuesday, September 15, Columbus State will participate in the United Way's "Community Care Day," which is central Ohio's largest one-day volunteer outreach event. Members of Columbus State's team will have an opportunity to partner with LifeCare Alliance, which administers Meals On Wheels, Project Open Hand, Carrie's Cafe, and other programs.

Volunteers are needed in the Meals on Wheels kitchen, at Project Open Hand’s pantry, in Carrie's Cafe and in the cafe exercise area, with Wii games for seniors.

The time commitment for serving as part of Columbus State's team would be either all day or half day. Staff volunteering could use vacation or personal time.
