President candidate forums today and March 3

The Presidential Search Committee has announced two finalists for the position. The committee is chaired by Board of Trustee member Suzanne Stilson Edgar and is comprised of faculty, student, administration, staff and community leaders. Columbus State employees have been invited to meet the candidates at open forums, the first of which will be held later today in the WD Conference Center ballroom, at 1:15 p.m. for faculty, and 2:15 p.m. for staff and administrators. Students have also been invited to meet the candidates at 3:30 p.m.

Dr. David T. Harrison is currently Vice Provost for Regional Campuses at the University of Central Florida, where he leads all functions at 11 campus locations in seven counties. Under his leadership, more UCF degrees are offered on community college campuses, and the number of transfer students earning bachelor’s degrees has increased significantly.

Before joining UCF, Dr. Harrison held leadership positions with Seminole Community College in Sanford, Florida, and Sinclair Community College in Dayton. He holds a Ph.D. from Ohio State University, an M.B.A. from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburg, and a bachelor of chemical engineering from the University of Dayton.

On Wednesday, March 3, an open forum (same times and location) will be held for the second candidate, Dr. B. Kaye Walter. Dr. Walter is the Chief Learning Officer and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida. She has held that position since 2005.

Previously she was the Vice President for Academic Services at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Dr. Walter has also been a professor of chemistry and a co-facilitator at The Academy, Institute for Leadership Training and Development.

Dr. Walter holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Rice University, a M.Div. from Saint Paul School of Theology, and a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Houston.

Username, password changes coming March 1
If you are an employee and use more than one password to access Columbus State systems, this message is important to you! On March 1 employees will have one username and password for all Columbus State systems.

On March 1 you will use your “employee” account (Network and GroupWise) password to access all Columbus State systems. System accesses most likely impacted by this account unification are Blackboard and CougarWeb.

The Columbus State Woodwind Ensemble will perform its winter term concert on Tuesday, March 2, at 4:30 p.m. in the TL 123 music room. The free concert will feature European music from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical eras as well as works by American composers Stephen Foster and William Grant Still. CEWD announces new enrollment site
graphicThe gold bar that will be added to the CougarWeb page on March 1 means that Community Education and Workforce Development has rolled out a new website for noncredit courses.

Instant Enrollment, a Datatel interface for Colleague, will enable students to register for noncredit, open-enrollment courses offered through Continuing Professional Education (CPE), Business and Industry Training (B&I), the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and Transitional Workforce (TWF).

Current and returning Columbus State students can enroll in noncredit courses using their Cougar ID and password. Students signing up for noncredit courses for the first time will be asked to provide personal information so a Cougar ID can be created, allowing them to immediately register for noncredit training classes and workshops.

Deadline for Spring 2010 Fee Waivers is March 19
The deadline for Employee/Dependent Fee Waivers for Spring Quarter 2010 is Friday, March 19. A Request for Fee Waiver form must be turned into Human Resources by 4:30 p.m. on that date to guarantee that fee waivers will be processed before late fees are assessed.

You may also first pay your fees and be reimbursed within 30 days from the start of the quarter by completing the Request for Fee Waiver form and submitting an official payment receipt to Human Resources by April 28.
