College mourns loss of Dispatcher Kim Gatliff
Diane “Kim” Gatliff,
59, died February 1 at home after a brave battle with cancer. She was a
dispatcher in the Department of Public Safety for close to 20 years. She is
survived by her husband Carl, five children and six grandchildren. A
memorial celebration will take place on Saturday, February 11 from 3-6 p.m.
at Whetstone Park of Roses Shelter House, 3901 N. High St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Kobacker House, 800 McConnell Drive, Columbus, OH 43214.
The Columbus State Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble will perform their Winter Term concert on Tuesday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the King Arts Complex, 867 Mt. Vernon Avenue. The free concert will feature the Concert Band, under the direction of Thomas Lloyd, with guest artist Everett Jones, who will perform the final movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3.
The Jazz Ensemble, which will perform in the second half of the concert, is directed by Columbus jazz musician Rick Brunetto.

DX Copy Center to close March 1
The Copy Center, located on the first floor of the Discovery Exchange/Bookstore, will close at that location March 1 and move downstairs in the basement level, merging with the college’s Print Services Department.
Once the move is complete, ordering color or b/w copies will be quite easy: For color or specialty requests, email ColorPrints@cscc.edu or call ext. 5652. For black-and-white copies, you can email BWPrints@cscc.edu or call ext. 5189.
Services for students or retail customers, such as mail drops and postage, faxing, graduation supplies and money orders, will be available at the customer care desk in the Bookstore or online. Color copying will be provided to students in the Computer Commons in the TL, for $.25 per page.

Project Management to the Rescue
At most colleges TD is a football term. At Columbus State it stands for TeamDynamix, the Project Management Office (PMO)
web program that tracks big projects on campus. "It's an excellent way
to organize projects and initiatives," says Bart Prickett, IT Support Services director, "and it's all visible to our clients."
Since 2008, TD has been the approved web-based software to organize project schedules and link team members. One nifty feature - it reminds you when your work is due!
Four of Columbus State’s “Tier One” projects: the Master Strategic Plan, Reaffirmation of Accreditation, Switch to Semesters and the Student Success Initiative, have been managed using the software.
But the software itself is only one of the MVPs on the team. Employees Nina Ewing, project coordinator, Chris Emswiler, Tony Mandator and Lisa Carpenter, project administrators,
all have many years experience in the field of project management. “We
are managing 30-plus projects that are 'cross college' meaning they
include one or more business units," says Mandator.

Business advisor to reach SBDC Hispanic market
Ariana Ulloa-Olavarrieta
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Columbus State has hired Ariana Ulloa-Olavarrieta and acquired the Latino SBDC to help Columbus State target the fastest growing population in the U.S. One in six Americans is Hispanic and the number of Hispanic-owned businesses grew 88 percent over the past decade, creating a growth rate that was almost triple the national rate.
As a SBDC Certified Business Advisor, Ulloa-Olavarrieta will serve the Hispanic community by providing one-on-one counseling, training and business referrals to those seeking to start or grow their small business. Ulloa-Olavarrieta’s experience and established relationships within the Hispanic community enable her to connect her clients to valuable and relevant business development resources.
Born in Mexico City, Ulloa-Olavarrieta immigrated to the United States when she was five years old and became a U.S. Citizen in 2008. She serves on the Hispanic Chamber of Columbus board, where she also served as board treasurer for two years. She has taught English as a second language and is currently on the scholarship committee for the Fund for Appalachian Ohio.
Ulloa-Olavarrieta has bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from Ohio University. She is also a small business owner, launching an organic baby food company in 2010.
English Department invites all to Open Mic
The English Department will hold an Open Mic event Friday, February 10, at 7:00 p.m. in Nestor Hall West Lounge. Students, employees and members of the community are invited to read their own poetry, fiction, or nonfiction, and are also encouraged to read the work of other writers.

This panel discussion will invite dialogue from many different perspectives in an effort to hear the voices of our students more clearly and learn to support, engage and retain them through their educational journey. to exhibit in North Carolina, Kansas
Humanities adjunct Stacy Leeman will exhibit her paintings, Yaakov Blesses Yehuda W#4 and Upstream P#3 at the 3rd Annual Juried Exhibition at Fayetteville Technical Community College in North Carolina from February 17- March 23. She will also have another painting, Fina #13 on display at the 2012 Heartland Artist Exhibit at the Irene B. French Community Center Gallery of Art in Merriam, Kansas, which opens March 3.
