Quality Check-Up Visit begins tomorrow
Columbus State will welcome Higher Learning Commission (HLC) reviewers Dr. Cheryl Carpenter-Davis and Dr. George Johnston to campus Tuesday, September 18 through Thursday, September 20 for the college’s Quality Check-Up Visit. The Check-Up Visit occurs in the final year of the seven-year AQIP process of accreditation.
During the visit, Drs. Carpenter-Davis and Johnston will meet with teams from across campus to discuss everything the college is doing, from action projects and federal compliance, to strategic planning, governance, community engagement and student projects. They will meet individually with faculty, staff and student panels. A large group of community leaders will come to campus to discuss their partnerships with Columbus State. The college’s “Systems Portfolio” and Columbus State’s response to the Higher Learning Commission’s feedback on that portfolio will also be presented.
After the Quality Check-Up Visit, the Higher Learning Commission will provide a report that outlines their findings. Consideration for Columbus State’s Reaffirmation of Accreditation will then be completed by a full HLC review panel by the end of the year.
Columbus State Bicentennial calendars in the mail to employees
In February, students from the Hospitality Management Baking class helped Columbus celebrate the city’s 200th birthday by designing and creating a series of Columbus landmark cakes, including the LeVeque Tower, the Capitol building, Nationwide, the Columbus Zoo and even the airport! The cakes were presented to guests at the party held in Battelle Hall, photographed with their student creators, and then quickly devoured.
Later in the year, Columbus State photography students were sent on assignment to photograph each of the same landmarks, and the winning photos were combined with the cake photos to create a souvenir 18-month calendar to give to guests at the 2012 Taste the Future scholarship fundraiser, which also honored the Bicentennial, with Mayor Coleman serving as the honorary chair.

The calendars are now being distributed through interoffice mail to employees, so keep an eye out this week for yours in your mailbox! The Bookstore will also distribute calendars on Customer Appreciation Day, Tuesday, September 18.
