Eyes on the Green Screen!
Filming has been going on around campus recently as Columbus State’s ad agency Ologie shoots footage for the college’s new TV commercials. Using a green screen—the chroma key technique—allows filmmakers to use special effects in the final editing, adding different backgrounds or scenes to the video. More than 100 students were selected to appear in the four 15-second ads, which will begin airing in November, after the election. The pictured student is Erin Rundio, a first-year Preferred Pathway student who plans to study speech pathology.
“Customized” career fairs respond to student needs
Career Services recently hosted the first annual disABILITIES Career Fair on October 10, in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The event offered students and alumni a chance to connect with community agencies and employers regarding prospective careers, employment and internship opportunities.
Customized career fairs such as this are designed to respond to the unique needs of Columbus State students, but are open to all students interested in attending. Career Services will offer another custom career fair when they host the Veterans Career Fair, Wednesday, November 14, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Nestor Hall lounges.
For more information about upcoming career fairs, or to host a custom career fair for your specific audience, please contact Career Services Director Dr. Chandra Bell at ext. 5414.
Lego robots are back and volunteers are needed!
The FIRST Lego League Competition will be held Saturday, December 15, in the Columbus State Conference Center, and the organizing committee is looking for volunteers to help. FIRST Lego League is a large regional robotics contest for middle school children, and Columbus State has hosted it for more than 10 years. Volunteers are needed for judging, coordination of teams, refereeing the competition, and scoring for the event. No robotics experience is needed, and all volunteers receive training, so if you’re interested in helping or you would like more information about this rewarding experience, please contact Gene Sprang at ext.7101 or Chuck Kassor at ext.7108 in the Aviation Maintenance Technology.
OfficeMax new source for office supplies
OfficeMax is Columbus State’s new office supply provider. This change will provide us with several added benefits, including:
-
Cost savings. It is estimated Columbus State will save at least 17-20 percent over last year.
-
Scholarships. OfficeMax will provide an annual scholarship based on purchasing volume.
-
Sustainability. There are a number of green-friendly options including the online supply catalog (no more printed copies), pick-up of empty toner cartridges, and reusable delivery boxes.
Training sessions will be available for all current authorized Staples/E-way users and cost center managers starting on the week of November 5. The last day to place orders with Staples will be Friday, November 9. The first day to place orders through OfficeMax will be Monday, November 12.
More details on dates and times for training will be made available. The transition to OfficeMax is being coordinated by Supervisor of Purchasing Darrin Albaugh.
