Second in Performing Arts Series at the Lincoln Theatre is March 25
Join Chorus Columbus State for a musical evening of African-American Spirituals and jazz standards on Monday, March 25, from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public at the beautiful historic Lincoln Theatre, located at 769 E. Long St. The Chorus, directed by Gordon Franklin, will perform "Spirituals with a Touch of Jazz,” a unique program showcasing the roots of jazz music as seen through the lens of African-American spirituals. The concert is the second in the Columbus State Performing Arts Series at the Lincoln.
In April, award-winning director Frank Barnhart will take Theatre Columbus State to the Lincoln to perform “Six Degrees of Separation,” an examination of the threads of chance that link one person to another. The play will run Wednesday through Saturday, April 24 – 27, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. A special matinee will be performed on Thursday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m.
The Series will wrap up on Monday, April 29 with Emma Easton’s Gospel Vocal Ensemble performing a Historic Flashback of Great Gospel Choirs, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.
All performances are free and open to the public.
Women’s Herstory Month event is Friday
The award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues, is based on V-Day Founder and playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. The play will be performed Friday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nestor Hall Auditorium.
The play is free and open to the public, but donations will be collected for the dôma organization, which works to restore survivors of human trafficking, provide holistic care to vulnerable mothers, and provide early childhood care and intervention.
The Vagina Monologues celebrates women’s sexuality and strength with humor and grace. Through this play, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. Please join the Office of Diversity Initiatives for this special Women’s Herstory Month event.

The 2012 award winners were Robert Fitrakis, Ph.D., J.D. , Professor of Social Sciences; Gerald Mueller, Professor of Mathematics; Thomas Habegger, Ph.D., Professor of Sport and Exercise Studies; and James Taylor, CEC, Professor of Hospitality Management.

Sesco to present at international conference in April

Ruth Sesco, adjunct faculty member in the Humanities and program coordinator for The Ohio State University Libraries will present, “A Procedural Model for International Class Collaboration” at the 2013 Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Conference in New York April 3-4.
Globally networked classes modeled on her research were developed at OSU through a Gateway Interactive Course Module Seed Grant program sponsored by OSU’s Office of International Affairs. According to Sesco, “The procedural model, based on multiple successes, is adaptive to any discipline at any level and facilitates experiential, transformative and deep learning outcomes in traditional classes through modular, short-term interactive content.”

Ohio Wesleyan offers scholarships to Columbus State students

The average merit-based aid (scholarships and OWU grants) for Columbus State students transferring to Ohio Wesleyan in 2012 was more than $24,000 per student, according to Coates.

Open Online Course: "Teaching Effectively with Powerpoint"
PowerPoint is one of the most widely used presentation aids but few of us have developed fluency in using it. How we prepare, design and deliver PowerPoint presentations greatly effects how our audience—students or colleagues—learn from us.
Through this course you can explore, discuss and apply key principles of design and delivery that support learning. This class builds on one previously offered through the Adjunct Engagement Initiative featuring best practice presentations by Carolyn Kaufman, associate professor of Psychology. While not a technical how-to class (you should already be familiar with PowerPoint basics) participants can learn from each other about technical and pedagogical practices. Conference March 30 to promote growth as world citizens
A one-day conference “Investment and Choices: Views of Education from Varied Perspectives” is an invigorating conference that will be held Saturday, March 30 at the Columbus State Center for Workforce Development from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The conference is hosted by the PREVAIL-RESPECT organization, a local group that promotes education and life-long learning. Columbus State students and employees, community members, children and families are invited to the conference which will promote “growth and development as world citizens.”
The conference focuses on educational issues and solutions; promotes self-competency and knowledge seeking; exposes participants to varied educational choices, and encourages collaboration between entities that touch on students’ and individuals’ lives. The program will feature a welcome from Columbus State Director of TRiO Programs and Special Projects, Stephanie Albrecht, keynotes from Columbus education business owners Carolyn Berkley and John Gregory, education and discussion lead by a variety of panelists, including Columbus State Admissions Advisor George Chatters, plus a Children’s Academy, entertainment, vendors, awards and prizes.
