Time to complete Annual Reviews
Full-time employee Annual Reviews are due to Human Resources by July 31 and part-time employee Annual Reviews are due to Human Resources by August 30. Check with your manager to find out when you need to turn things in to him/ her. For more information, or copies of forms, check out the Annual Review webpage. You can also read the global email that was sent out with deadlines and details on the site.

Summer numbers in
The preliminary Summer Semester 2013 headcount and Full Time Equivalent numbers, as of the census date June 3, stand at 18,008 paid students, with an FTE of 8,492.47.

The new Testing Center team took a moment for a photo at the recent Ohio College Testing Association Conference held at Columbus State last month. Dean of Advising and Student Support Services Desiree Polk-Bland recently announced that the Columbus State Testing Center and the Testing and Talent Assessment Center in CEWD will merge. Michelle Teasley, center, will serve as director, with Jim Kalna, left, and Sydni Howard, right, serving as assistant directors of the merged unit. The changes will be effective July 1.
“After over fifteen years of testing experience, I welcome the opportunity to strategically lead the college as the face of testing continues to change and grow within central Ohio,” said Teasely. “More details will be communicated across campus within the areas that may be impacted through this reorganization.”
Special Bookstore supply needs for Autumn Semester?
If you have specific supply needs for your students during Autumn Semester classes, please notify the Columbus State Bookstore as soon as possible to ensure the required items are available. Some examples may include Sports & Exercise Studies apparel and equipment, special office or medical supplies, and art supplies.
Financial aid students expect to have course-required supplies available before the start of classes. Please email the general merchandise buyers a copy of your course supplies requirements or syllabus, or contact:

Construction Sciences faculty in the news
Alden Jenkins, adjunct faculty in Civil Engineering Technology, was recognized and honored at the 30th anniversary gathering of the Columbus Chapter of the Society of Marketing Professional Services. Jenkins is a charter member of the organization and was the second President of the organization from 1983 – 1984.
Instructor Jon Link completed his exams to earn his State of Ohio Professional Surveyor license. Jon coordinates the Surveying program for Columbus State.
Carringer earns doctorate
Columbus State graduate and associate professor in the Integrated Media and Technology Department Paul Carringer was awarded his Ph.D. by Colorado State University, School of Education May 18. Carringer majored in Education and Human Resource Studies with a specialization in higher education leadership.
Carringer's dissertation is titled "The Community College President: Working with and Through the Media to Advance the Institution." It is a study of successful media relations cases across North America. The study focused on community college presidents and marketing communication lead executives. The dissertation will be published and available in the summer of 2013. The findings of his research were presented at the American Association of Community Colleges annual convention in April.
Ferguson to sing National Anthem at Crew July 20
Dr. Jeannette Ferguson, instructor in Biological and Physical Sciences, will sing the National Anthem at the Saturday, July 20 Columbus Crew soccer game, as part of a fundraiser for the Joan Bisesi Foundation for Head and Neck Oncology Research. Joan’s Foundation partner and a 10-year oral cancer survivor, Ferguson has been named a “Home Town Hero” by the Foundation. Wellness Initiative to host 50th Anniversary Walking Club
Are you participating in the Summer Slim Down Challenge? The Columbus State Wellness Initiative wants to help you meet your wellness goals! Join the new 50th Anniversary Walking Club, which kicks off Monday, June 10. Walkers should meet at the Christopher Columbus statue in the center of campus at 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as 7:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.*
The Club will walk one mile each day with the goal to reach 50 miles by Columbus States 50th Anniversary Celebration on September 30. Every time you walk with the Walking Club, you can enter your name into a prize drawing that will take place at the Birthday Celebration on September 30.
The Wellness Initiative also needs employees to help lead some of these walks. If you would be willing to lead one or more of these walks during the week, or if you have any questions, please contact Nichole Bowman-Glover, Wellness coordinator, at ext. 3989. *Walks will not take place if it is raining.
