Important Note:  The Lincoln Exhibition in the Columbus State Library will open to the campus community on Wednesday, June 19, not June 14 as previously noted in the Update. The exhibit will still open to the public on June 21.

Vice president “rewiring, not retiring”

rogersDr. Jan Rogers will step down from her duties as an administrator at Columbus State on August 1, but continue to follow her passion doing what she loves at the college.

Rogers will transition from Vice President of Student Affairs, to her new role at the college advising students.

She makes the move for personal reasons including health and family commitments.  She hopes to spend at least fifty percent of her time advising at one or more of the Regional Learning Centers, and working with special student cases and cohorts of students when needed.  She will also continue to serve on some strategic initiatives and projects at Columbus State.

“I’ve been so fortunate to serve Dr. Harrison and work with such an excellent team in Student Affairs during this marvelous learning experience,” says Rogers.  “The thing I love most about Columbus State is that just as you think you’d done it all, you’re off on a new opportunity.”

“I’m excited to return to my roots, working directly with students, helping them succeed in both their careers and their lives,” says Rogers.  “My heart is here.”

Rogers started at Columbus State in 1998 as Coordinating Director of Student Life.  She says she “loved every minute” working at the new Delaware Campus in 2010 as the founding Dean.  “That was a special opportunity for me to work with faculty and staff at the new campus in a multifaceted role.  It was an exciting time for the college to open a new campus.”

Rogers is also eager to spend more time with her family and burgeoning group of grandchildren.  Daughter Alyssa and her husband live in London, England with their two-year-old son, Rogers’ first grandchild.  Alyssa is expecting her second child soon.  And Rogers’ son Justin and his wife are also expecting a baby this fall.  They live in Brooklyn, N.Y. where Justin teaches English at LaGuardia Community College.

“I’ve grown tremendously in the last 15 years,” says Rogers. “It’s been such an honor to help build the Division of Student Affairs into something that can stand the test of time in the 21st Century. I’m excited about being able to serve Columbus State in this new role and look forward to the many opportunities for growth as I return to being a practitioner—what I call rewiring, not retiring!”

Students appreciate Delaware Campus advisor

EllenStudents in need of help figuring out their semester schedule, their degree program, their future career and even their lives come to Ellen Neutzling at the Delaware Campus for the answers.

Neutzling is so good at what she does that a student nominated her for Staff Employee of the Month because “she helped me tremendously while I was in the process of figuring out my schedule and completing my degree.”

The student, Augusta Gerhardt, hand wrote her nomination, underlining many passages twice for emphasis! Nuetzling was given the award at the June First Wednesday meeting, held at the Delaware Campus June 5.

“Ellen desperately wanted to see me accomplish my goals, and encouraged me in my endeavors as well as supplemented my efforts with information I was unclear with, or did not know about,” stated Gerhardt. “Ellen’s caring assistance made me feel so provided for and guided during my time at CSCC. She actually cared about my success!”

Supervisor Pat Fabrisi agrees.  “Ellen does care deeply about the success of her students and uses her knowledge, skills and experience developed as an advisor at Columbus State and Ohio State to creatively support students.”

“Her ability to help students feel that she is their partner is really something special.  Her nomination makes it clear that her support makes the difference.”
